Dear Students,

Cancer is a disease that has touched nearly all of us.

The University of Miami is once again partnering with the Miami Dolphins in the third Dolphins Cycling Challenge (DCC) to “tackle cancer one mile at a time.”

The two-day event, scheduled for November 3 and 4, 2012, features six different bicycle routes from 30 to 170 miles that go through 37 cities in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

One hundred percent of the funds raised by the riders benefit UM’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, which helps to further research and treatment for patients across South Florida and beyond. Thanks to the 860 cyclists, ages 3 to 84, and nearly 450 volunteers from the Dolphins special teams program, last year’s ride raised more than $1 million.

With your help, we hope to surpass our goal in 2012. We are challenging our students to join us for the ride and to recruit family and friends to join as well. We have created several options especially for our UM students:

  • If you would like to ride with Team UM, the first 100 students to email ridedcc@miami.edu will receive a personal registration code to have the $150 registration fee REDUCED TO $1.
  • Our Herbert Wellness Center will be hosting a spin-a-thon on November 3 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. for students and student organizations. Create a team, and compete against your fellow students to win some great prizes. For information, email cnickel@miami.edu.
  • To volunteer during the two-day ride, email ridedcc@miami.edu.

Whether you ride, fund raise as a virtual rider, or volunteer, join TEAM UM and let’s tackle cancer one mile at a time.

Who will you be riding for?
