Dear Colleagues,

As we monitor Tropical Storm Isaac’s track over the coming days, we all need to prepare ourselves at work and at home for possible storm conditions by late Sunday or early Monday.

With the start of classes today, we have a full house of students, faculty, and staff on all campuses. Your safety and the safety of our students and patients are our number one priority.

  1. Be informed: The University’s Emergency Management Team will send out updates as new information becomes available. You can also check the UM homepage or call the Emergency Information Hotline at 1-800-227-0354 for the latest information.

Update your contact information on MyUM to make sure the University can reach you in case of an emergency.

  2. Get Ready: All units should review their UReady emergency plans to make sure everyone knows what to do before, during, and after a storm. When necessary, units should begin implementing their plans to secure property, limit disruption of services, and assist with recovery efforts after the storm.

Make sure your family and home are secure. Use the emergency information available at www.miami.edu/prepare to ensure your plans for shelter during the storm and your basic needs during the first 48 to 72 hours after the storm are in place.

The Miller School of Medicine and Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science will be sending supplementary communications covering staff emergency plans for academic, research, and UHealth operations.

Let’s make sure we’re prepared and safe.
