All those wishing to take courses for graduate credit, whether or not they wish to become candidates for a degree, must apply for admission. The applicant’s file includes:

  1. Application and fee of $65.00 payable by credit card to be submitted electronically.
  2. Official transcripts of all previously taken college work, both undergraduate and graduate.*

    Special Note: Applicants from the People’s Republic of China must arrange for a verification report of his/hers university transcript and diploma with the China Academic Degree and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC). The CDGDC Report must be mailed directly to the University of Miami – College of Engineering Office of Admission by CDGDC. It cannot be mailed by the applicant or any third party.

  3. All applicants must submit recent (within five years) Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores*, which include the aptitude portion, as well as the most relevant advanced test in the major field if required by the department.

    The traditional minimum cum grade point average (gpa) and GRE score seen by applicants given serious consideration for admission are listed below:

       
    1. B.S. in Engineering applying to M.S. program, 3.0 cum gpa and a 300 or higher on the GRE revised general test (1000 or higher on previous GRE scoring-scale)

    3. B.S. in Engineering applying directly into Ph.D. program, 3.5 cum gpa and a 310 or higher on the GRE revised general test (1200 or higher on previous on GRE scoring-scale)
    4.  
    5. M.S. in Engineering to Ph.D. program, 3.5 cum gpa and a 305 or higher on the GRE revised general test (1100 or higher on previous GRE scoring-scale)

  4. Important information about the GRE

    Students who do not have a degree in an Engineering field can still apply and will be considered by the admission committee, but if admitted pre-requisite coursework is traditionally required before being formally admitted in the Engineering graduate program.

  5. International applicants whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or one of the equivalent exams listed below within two years of your start term if admitted.

    IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It measures ability to communicate in English across all four language skills – listening, reading,  writing and speaking – for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication.

  7. Three letters of recommendation sent electronically directly from the recommender.
  8. All accepted international students who require an I-20 in order to secure their student visa will need to submit to us a copy of the front page of their current valid passport (page with personal information and official photo) before we can issue an I-20.

*Only official test scores sent by the testing agency are acceptable for admission review. Transcripts and other educational documents must be official and received in a sealed envelope from the original university where the credits were awarded. Please note: Applicants for the MS in Management of Technology program may submit GMAT scores instead of GRE scores. Use the GMAT code of 7NV-S1-08.
