Someone once said, “Philanthropy is not about
business, nor is it about love. It’s a careful mix
of the two—plus risk and imagination.” It is that
strategic blending of qualities that we celebrate in
the University of Miami’s inaugural Donor
Recognition Societies’ publication, A Tradition of
Giving. The philanthropic spirit that has shaped
this institution over the past seventy seven years
is exemplified by members of these societies. Their
support has benefited a diverse mix of students,
faculty, research endeavors, and academic and
athletic programs; yet all share a common commitment
to excellence.
We hope this publication inspires you to take an
