| Diana
and Joel Steinger have always believed in the adage
that the value of a person is in what they give,
not in what they receive. Thanks to the Steinger’s
generosity The Miami Project received an extraordinary
major gift from the well-known South Florida philanthropists.
The Steinger’s gift will support the cutting
edge scientific research efforts of Vance Lemmon,
Ph.D. and John Bixby, Ph.D. Dr. Lemmon’s research
focuses on understanding how molecules influence
the way axons are guided across long distances
to their proper targets. Dr. Bixby’s research
centers on a better understanding of how axons
grow and affect the formation and maintenance
of specific nerve connections. This understanding
is critical in developing a more complete understanding
of nerve cell regeneration after injury.
According to Diana Steinger, “We understand
the critical importance of these findings in the
development of the nervous system and ultimately
a cure for paralysis. That would truly be an extraordinary
gift to receive.”
In recognition of the Steinger’s philanthropy
the fourth floor of the Lois Pope Life Center
will be named the Diana and Joel Steinger Fourth
Floor for Scientific Research. |
