Applicants must be members or children of members of the Japanese American Citizens League interested in pursuing undergraduate or graduate education in the creative arts. Professional artists may not apply. Selection is based on academic record, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Preference is given to those students who are interested in creative projects that reflect the Japanese American experience and culture.

Awarded to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Must demonstrate financial need or provide a statement indicating some other disadvantaged situation. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required. Recipients must serve as NIH employee for 10 weeks of the summer during the sponsored year, and 12 months for each year scholarship was received at Bethesda campus.
