How do I decide whether to accept the Student Health Service sponsored Insurance or to choose another policy?
All students must have adequate coverage. Although the Heath Center sponsored plan is specifically designed for UM students and provides enhanced services when care is provided at the health center, other policies may provide advantages for individual students. Please carefully review the insurance brochure with special attention to coverage, exclusions, limitations and pre-existing condition clauses and choose the alternative that best meets your individual needs.
Do I need to purchase the Student Health Service sponsored health insurance to use the health center?
No, you are not required to purchase the Student Health Service sponsored insurance to be eligible to use the health center.
Do I need to pay an additional fee to use the Student Health Service?
Full time undergraduate students, full time graduate students, day law students and others who have paid the University fee are eligible to use the services of the Student Health Center. Additional fees apply for summer sessions. Spouses of students may pay a Health Fee and become eligible to utilize the Student Health Center.
What types of services are provided at the Student Health Center?
The Student Health Center provides primary care clinical services and specialty services such as women's health, orthopedics and allergy injections. Most primary care services and many routine lab tests are provided free of charge. Specialty care services, x-rays and other lab tests are offered at reasonable charges.
If I choose not to buy the University sponsored health insurance, will you bill my insurance plan?
No, the Student Health Service will not bill your insurance plan. Many of the services offered at the Student Health Center are provided free of charge. Other services are provided at reasonable charges, a receipt for these services will be provided for students who wish to seek reimbursement from their insurance company.
