Active exploration. A commitment to teaching. At UM, the two go hand-in-hand.

As one of the nation's most active research universities rated by the Carnegie Foundation, UM specializes in innovative thinking and great teaching. You'll see this combination in the dynamic courses we offer in more than 180 majors and programs, ranging from accounting to theatre arts. The University of Miami will help open your eyes to all sorts of possibilities and guide you down the road to success.

Many students broaden their options by pursuing double majors and minors. Our unique accelerated dual-degree programs can fast-track students towards career goals in fields such as law, medicine,
physical therapy
, exercise physiology, Latin American studies and marine geology. Whatever your academic goals may be, the University of Miami offers the freedom to cross disciplines and carve an educational path unique to your aptitudes and interests.

Choosing a Major
If you are undecided about your major, you can use your first year to explore while still fulfilling general education requirements. The Center for Freshman Advising in the College of Arts and Sciences is designed specifically to help undeclared first-year students with course selection, selecting a major or any other academic concerns.

With a student-faculty ratio of just 12:1, UM offers classes that feature an engaging exchange of ideas. Students work closely with faculty both in their classes and through the many opportunities for undergraduate research. Our faculty, who are experts in their fields, are passionate about sharing their knowledge and their vast network of resources with students. And with our emphasis on "hands-on, early on" learning, students experience the connection between classroom ideas and practical applications through real-world projects and activities.
