Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG)
This state grant is awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need, are legal Florida residents, and maintain a full-time student status. The University of Miami determines eligibility using information provided on the FAFSA (www.fafsa.gov). Award ranges are determined by state appropriations.
   
  Florida residents must answer all questions on the FAFSA to be considered for the Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG). Incomplete FAFSA applications will not be processed. The FAFSA and/or any corrections must be processed by June 1 in order to meet the deadline.
       
       
William L. Boyd, IV, Florida Resident Access Grant (BFRAG)
This non-need-based grant provides funds for tuition and fees at Florida's private colleges and universities. Eligibility requirements include legal Florida residency for parents and students, valid U.S. Residency status, and full-time enrollment in an undergraduate degree-seeking program. Students pursuing a second bachelor's degree are not eligible. The Certification of Florida Residency must be completed and submitted to the OFAS by all new incoming freshmen and transfer students. The preferred date is June 1 for the Fall semester award and December 1 for the Spring semester award. Preference is given to applications received by these dates; all others will be awarded on a funds available basis. If you submitted a valid application for the previous academic year and are still eligible, you will not be required to submit another application for the current academic year. The FAFSA will also be accepted in lieu of the Florida Residency application. However, two supporting documents will still need to be included for processing (see Certification of Florida Residency application for detailed descriptions of all acceptable documentation).
       
       
Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program
The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program is a lottery-funded scholarship that rewards Florida high school graduates who demonstrate high academic achievement and enroll in an eligible public or private post-secondary educational institution within three years of high school graduation. It is the umbrella program for three state-funded scholarships: Florida Academic Scholars, Florida Medallion Scholars and the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars. These awards are determined based on academic achievement in high school, SAT and ACT scores, and fulfillment of certain course requirements. The amount of each specific award is based on the number of credit hours for which a student registers. Initial eligibility must be at least 6 credits. Effective July 1, 2013 the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is no longer required in order to receive this award.
       
  Awards amounts are based on the number of credit hours a student is enrolled in each semester, the value of each credit hour will be determined by the State on an annual basis. For the 2014-2015 academic year recipients of the FL Academic Scholars will receive $103 per credit and recipients of the FL Medallion Scholars will receive $77 per credit.
       
  The University of Miami will include an estimated award for the year based on 15 credits of enrollment each semester (i.e.; Estimated FL Academic scholars $3090 for the year -- $1545 fall and $1545 spring). At the end of the drop-add period of each term OFAS will review and update the awards for all students based on the actual number of credits a student is enrolled. Enrollment will also be reviewed at the completion of each term and adjustments will be made at that time as required. Please note that any adjustment to your Bright Futures award may affect your bill with the University of Miami.
       
  A student will be required to reimburse the State of Florida Department of Education for the cost of course(s) dropped or withdrawn after the initial drop/add period.
       
  Florida residents must have their high school guidance counselor submit their information and authorization form to the Florida Bright Futures Program at the Florida Department of Education in Tallahassee. As an incoming freshman, eligibility is determined based on performance throughout high school. For further requirements contact your high school guidance counselor, or visit the Bright Futures Program website.
       
  Disbursement of Florida State Aid will occur after the University's last day to add/drop a course, including Bright Futures, Florida Resident Access Grant (FRAG), and Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG).
       
Florida National Merit Incentive Scholarship
Beginning Fall 2014, Florida National Merit Incentive Scholarship Program is a merit scholarship for Florida high school graduates who achieved the National Merit or National Achievement Scholar designation. To be eligible a student must:
 
  • Be a Florida Resident.
  • Earn a standard Florida high school diploma or its equivalency, complete a home education program, or earn a non-Florida diploma while living outside Florida with a parent on public service assignment.
  • Enroll full time (minimum of 12 credits per term) in a bachelor’s program.
  • Initially enroll during the fall academic term following high school graduation.

  • A student enrolled in a 4-year program is eligible to receive an award for a maximum of 8 semesters, while a student enrolled in a 5-year program is eligible for a maximum of 10 semesters. To renew their award students must complete all credits attempted and maintain a minimum institutional cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students who do not earn the required credits or fail to maintain the minimum GPA will be ineligible to continue receiving this award and will not be granted restoration.
           
    Eligible student enlists in the Military:
           
      An initially eligible student who enlists in the United States Armed Forces immediately after high school graduation must (within three years after separation from active duty):
           
        Complete and submit a Reinstatement/Restoration Application for Students online  
           
        Submit a DD-214 via US mail to verify time served in the military.  
           
      A student who is receiving a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship and discontinues his/her education to enlist in the United States Armed Forces must commence the remainder of the seven-year renewal period (for students who graduated high school during the 2009-2010 academic year or earlier) or five-year renewal period (for students who graduated high school during the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 academic years) upon the date of separation from active duty. To reinstate the scholarship, the student must:
           
        Complete and submit a Reinstatement/Restoration Application for Students online.  
           
        Submit a DD-214 via US mail to verify time served in the military.  
           
           
    Additional aid available to Florida Residents
           
    Jose Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund  
    This need-based scholarship is awarded to students of Spanish culture who were born in, or who have a natural parent who was born in, Mexico, or a Hispanic country of the Caribbean, Central or South America regardless of race. Students apply as a high school senior and must have a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0. The student must enroll full-time, be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen and meet Florida residency requirements. Students need to complete and submit the Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application to the State of Florida Department of Education at www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org. Students must also complete a FAFSA.
           
           
    Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans and Service members (CSDDV)
    This provides scholarships for dependent children or unremarried spouses of Florida veterans or service members who died as a result of service-connected injuries, diseases, or disabilities sustained while on active duty or who have been certified by the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs as having service-connected 100% permanent and total disabilities. CSDDV also provides funds for dependent children whose parent is classified as a prisoner of war or missing in action by the Armed Forces of the United States or as civilian personnel captured while serving with the consent or authorization of the United States Government during wartime service. CSDDV provides a fixed award amount at an eligible public or private postsecondary institution. Students must be enrolled in degree or certificate programs for at least six credit hours.
