The School of Music broke ground Tuesday, April 9, 2002 on the $10 million state-of-the-art Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library and Technology Center. Expected to open in Spring 2004, the 28,000-square foot, two-story facility will include a 15,300-square-foot music library and a 5,200-square foot advanced technology center, complete with six computer-based laboratories. The music library will be home to collections of books, scores, recordings, special collections and reference works, as well as extensive computer facilities, audio- and video-playback equipment, study areas and specialized spaces.
Phillip Frost, chairman of the UM Board of Trustees, Marta Weeks, President Shalala, William Hipp, Dean of the School of Music, and Luis Glaser, UM Provost, all participated in the ground breaking.
