I could not have imagined having a more rewarding experience than my 5 months in Ljubljana. It's a wonderful city in a small country with friendly people and countless things to do.  I met so many great people - not just Slovenians, but other international students from all over the world.  I also had a chance to travel around to nearby countries including Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, and Montenegro.  I would definitely recommend Slovenia to anyone who is thinking about studying abroad.

---Daniel Friedeberg, Spring 2007

The Republic of Slovenia is a small, beautiful and picturesque country in the heart of Europe, boarded by Italy, Austria, Hungary, Croatia and the Mediterranean Sea.  Roughly the size of Massachusetts, Slovenia has a population of 2 million and its capital city is Ljubljana. The official language is Slovene, one of the South Slavonic languages.  In Slovenia, natural beauty abounds: beautiful beaches, the snow-capped Alps, pristine mountain lakes, spectacular waterfalls, forests, caves, hills, plains, and rivers are just some of its treasures.   It is a great study abroad destination for those interested in traveling throughout Central and Eastern Europe.

Ljubljana is a mid-sized European city of 330,000 inhabitants with the friendliness and warmth of a small town and all the characteristics of a modern metropolis. Nearly one tenth of its inhabitants are students, which gives Ljubljana a young and lively character. It is a meeting point of East and West, where the old intertwines in harmony with the new. Roman ruins, a medieval castle, Renaissance and Baroque facades, a charming old town, ancient bridges over the Ljubljanica River and an expansive park are just some of the attractions that make this city so delightful.
The University of Ljubljana, established in 1919, has over 56,000 undergraduate and graduate students in 22 faculties and three art academies.  The Faculty of Social Sciences is one of its largest academic units with over 4,000 students and more than 20 undergraduate and graduate programs in Political Science, Sociology, Communication, and Cultural Studies.

Room and Board
Students going to Ljubljana can apply to live in the dorms, but there may not be any availability due to limited space.  In this case, students must secure housing on their own.  There is a student organization that provides some assistance to students seeking off-campus accommodation.  It is suggested that students arrive two weeks prior to the start of classes if they need to secure off-campus housing.
