Marine Science (4 - 5) Semester Credit Hours)

Join the Marines...Marine Scientists, that is.

This introduction to research in tropical oceanography will help you learn what has happened over the span of centuries. Take a dive and explore coral reef, mangrove and seagrass ecosystems. Learn techniques of identification and mapping, identify potential anthropogenic threats and assist in developing management plans.

Understand the importance of the balance of marine and land. Get hands-on experience with tagging methods and routine animal husbandry. You’ll study samples of the Miami River and upper bay and learn to use the analysis tools of mass spectrometry, high pressure liquid chromatography and spectrophotometry to analyze your samples.

Marine Science at the University of Miami is a combination of classroom lectures, laboratory exercises and field studies. Instructors will use their research background and love of marine life to instill in you an appreciation for the beauty and biological relationships of the marine world that few other courses can.
