J-1 Employment (Excluding Academic Training)


  • Read the handout on Employment (excluding Academic Training) for Students in J-1 Status - click here.
  • Schedule an appointment with your International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) advisor and meet with your ISSS advisor to employment for students in J-1 status.
  • If your J-1 program sponsor is not the University of Miami but an agency such as LASPAU, IIE/Fulbright, AMIDEAST, etc., then you need to contact your J-1 program sponsor to request authorization to engage in employment.
  • If your J-1 program sponsor is the University of Miami, then you need to request authorization to engage in employment from your ISSS advisor.
