University of Miami’s Institute For Cuban And Cuban-American Studies To Hold Kick-Off Celebration For Cuban Mosaic Exhibition

CORAL GABLES, FL (April 23, 2008) – The University of Miami’s Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies (ICCAS), in conjunction with Miami-Dade County Commissioners will be hosting a kick-off celebration for the fourth-annual Cuban Mosaic Exhibition.

The event, which will also be hosted by Commissioner Natacha Seijas, will take place on Thursday, May 1st at 9:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center at 111 N.W. First Street in Miami. The exhibit is open to the public and will be at the Center the entire month of May, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also featured will be a panel discussion titled “Cuba: What to Expect” with three Cuba experts from ICCAS, Dr. José Azel, Dr. Jaime Suchlicki, and Dr. Andy S. Gomez, on May 1st at 11:30 a.m. in the 2nd floor Board of County Commissioners’ Chambers

A short video, presented by ICCAS, will showcase the different stories of exodus of those who left the island in search of freedom as well as highlight political prisoners and their efforts to free the island.

The Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (ICCAS) is part of the University of Miami. ICCAS serves as a world-class academic center for the research and study of Cuban and Cuban-American topics. It organizes seminars and lectures, publishes academic research, and offers a special summer program on Cuba for U.S. and foreign students.
