Brookings Institution to discuss project on U.S. Policy toward Cuba in Transition at the University of Miami

WHAT: Members of the Brookings Institution’s project on U.S. Policy toward a Cuba in Transition will be conducting a press briefing to discuss their work and share thoughts on recent developments on the island.

U.S. Policy toward a Cuba in Transition, an initiative of The Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., is led by Brookings Vice President for Foreign Policy Carlos Pascual and former Chief of the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, Ambassador Vicki Huddleston.  The project seeks to identify a policy strategy toward Cuba that will advance U.S. national interests and promote a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic Cuba.

Brookings has brought together a diverse group of leading experts and opinion leaders to identify the critical components that should be considered in the formulation of future U.S. policies toward the island nation. On April 16, the project’s core group of experts will be meeting at the University of Miami to discuss Cuban civil society.

Andy Gomez, Assistant Provost at the University of Miami and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies, is a member of the core group of experts participating in the project.

Please join Ambassadors Pascual and Huddleston, Assistant Provost Andy Gomez, and other project advisers for the press briefing at the University of Miami’s School of Communication. Participants will take questions following an opening presentation about the group’s work in the context of recent events in Cuba.
