University Of Miami Alumni Jose Azel Has Been Named Senior Research Associate For The Institute For Cuban And Cuban-American Studies
Coral Gables, FL. (March 26, 2008) –The University of Miami’s Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies (ICCAS) has named long-time businessman and scholar Jose Azel as a senior research associate.
Azel, who has a 35-year-long career in businesses, including serving as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Pediatrix Medical Group, will lead ICCAS efforts to attract businesses as members of its Cuba Business Roundtable (CBR). The CBR provides businesses a comprehensive menu of services and professional advice on how to prepare for conducting business in a future Cuba.
“I want to make the Institute the place-to-go-to for the business community in a post-Castro, post--embargo Cuba,” said Azel. Recent changes of power in Cuba have sparked a greater interest in the CBR; Azel led a conference call days after Raul Castro assumed power in Cuba that drew over 200 participants. ICCAS director Jaime Suchlicki and other ICCAS senior researchers also provided analysis and expert advice on the conference call.
This conference call is one that will be held on a quarterly basis for CBR subscribing members. ICCAS senior researchers will provide political and economic analysis on Cuba. Other benefits include access to the ICCAS on-line academic journal “Cuban Affairs” and to ICCAS analytical briefings and papers. Annual CBR membership dues start at $120 for individual memberships and cap at $10,000 for Corporate Executive memberships.
Azel, who has been an adjunct professor of International Business at UM’s School of Business Administration, holds undergraduate and masters degrees in business administration and a Ph,D in International Affairs from UM.
