University of Miami Logo and Seal

University of Miami Logo
The logo has as its advantages its graphic impact and usefulness. Its bold letters reflect the character of the institution, while its subdued colors convey strength and tradition. The prominence of the word Miami also reflects close ties to the city and the area.

Standard Version of the Logo
The official University logo is shown below. This version of the logo is to be used on all institutional academic forms, brochures, letterhead, business cards, and advertising unless otherwise noted here. Other graphic identification elements may be used in conjunction with the official logo, but in a secondary role to the University logo.

The Area Under the "Bar"
The area underneath the bar in the logo can be used to "anchor" other identifying information. The design system requires that any word or words used in the space under the bar not exceed the width of the bar and must be set in Garamond type to match the type in the logo. The height of the letter used under the bar may not be less than one-half the height of the bar nor larger than two-thirds of the height of the lowercase letters in the word "Miami."

All requests to alter the official logo by setting type under the bar must be approved in advance by the Division of University Communications.

University of Miami Seal
By their nature, university seals are usually complex in design and therefore not effective for quick recognition and easy duplication. Use of the Great Seal is restricted to official, formal, or commemorative use, i.e., diplomas, checks, and other key documents that require the University imprimatur. The seal also may be appropriate where formality is desired, such as on plaques. When in doubt about when to use the seal and when to use the logo, check with the Division of University Communications.

The Great Seal of the University may be rendered in a single color, such as black or green, or may be rendered in a foil stamp or embossed. It also may be printed in its four-color form as it appears on decals.
