Brad McGuinn, assistant professor of political science at the School of Business, is a U.S. military consultant and an expert on terrorism. He teaches classes on international terrorism, the history of the Middle East and Israel.

Ranen Omer-Sherman, assistant professor of English and Jewish Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, teaches courses on the Arab-Israeli conflict as represented in literature.  He served for three years in the Israeli army in the late 1970s and early 1980s, including some time in LebanonOmer-Sherman is fluent in Hebrew

Haim Shaked, Ph.D., Professor and Director of the Middle East Studies Institute, incumbent of the Dr. M. Lee Pearce Chair in Middle East Peace Studies, and founding director of the Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies. Since 1995, Shaked has been involved in the establishment of the first private university in Israel, The Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliyya.

U.S.Image in Europe and the EU

Louise K. Davidson-Schmich, assistant professor of political science, specializes in western European politics. She is an expert in German politics, speaking fluent German, having lived in the country, and having published on the subject of German politics. Davidson-Schmich also teaches western European politics and the European Union and can comment on EU member states' reactions to the war.

Elise Giuliano, assistant professor of political science, specializes in Russian foreign policy in general, toward Iraq, the U.S. and Europe.  Giuliano also specializes in ethnic conflict, ethnic politics and nationalism in Afghanistan, Central Asia and the conflict in Chechnya.

Bernard Oxman, professor of law, is an expert in international law and law of the sea, and is distinguished by having served as Assistant Legal Adviser of the U.S. Department of State.

*Edgardo Rotman, foreign and international Law Librarian and Assistant Professor at the UM School of Law.  Rotman can discuss the history and significance of the International Criminal Court.  He was appointed to represent the United States at the International Penal and Penitentiary Foundation, where he has been a voting member of the Council since 1996. He is the author of four books and numerous articles published in leading American, European and Latin American journals on international and comparative criminal law, legal translation, and other subjects.

Richard L. Williamson Jr., professor of law and acting chair of the International Studies Department at UM, teaches international law, including a seminar on arms control. He can discuss export controls and laws concerning weapons of mass destruction. Williamson spent six years in the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, working on efforts to control the spread of nuclear weapons, including anti-terrorist aspects.

*Rafael Lima, lecturer in the School of Communication, is a former CNN journalist who covered the war in El Salvador and wrote an award-winning play based on the objectivity of journalists covering war called Salvador.
