Shajena Erazo (junior) Shajena was nominated for involvement with Hispanic Awareness Month Committee as the chair of the capstone event of the month, Fuego which transformed the courtyard of the School of Communications into a fiery ambiance with dancing and food. In the month of October, Shajena also lead UBS in participating in the Homecoming activities, helping to coordinate several events and leading UBS to two first place victories in Spirit Tree Competition and Parade. Additionally, in October Shajena was the keynote speaker for the Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship Recognition Luncheon honoring donors and student scholarship recipients. Shajena is a member of the STRIVE living-learning community, the first vice president of United Black Students and executive secretary of Student Government, among other leadership roles on campus. Shajena was noted as having a solid work ethic, extremely knowledgeable about campus, and described as a natural motivator who inspires other UM students. She has an ?amazing ability to touch everyone that she meets? and is a great example of a quality student leader at UM. |

Student Leader Spotlight Honorable Mention
During the month of October, Janki co-chaired UM’s largest day of service, Be the Change, National Gandhi Day of Service. Janki also is in the process of forming a new student organization, Invisible Children- an organization dedicated to the plight of child soldiers around the world. Additionally, Janki played a part in the Hindu Student Association/Indian Student Association’s Garba which fundraised hundreds of dollars for a charity that builds schools throughout rural India. Janki certainly is making her mark on campus and beyond! |
