ENN Test - October 2007

The University of Miami will conduct a full scale test activation of its Emergency Notification Network (ENN) on Thursday, October 18th, 2007 beginning at 12:15pm .

The tragic events at Virginia Tech have made the University of Miami mindful of the importance of timely and effective communications to students, faculty and staff during a time of crisis.  The UM Emergency Notification Network is a comprehensive communications solution that allows the University to quickly disseminate an urgent message through multiple communication mediums including: voice messages to cell, home and office phones, text messages to cell phones, email messages, emergency notification sirens, public address and loudspeaker messages in some dormitories and other buildings.

Emergency Notification Network messages are sent to every single member of the University community who has his/ her personal contact information registered on MyUM.  Those individuals who do not have their personal contact information registered on MyUM will not receive ENN voice or text messages on their cell phone.  Additionally, ENN emails or home phone messages may not be received if contact information is out of date.  Please take a moment to update your information on MyUM; full directions are available through the UM Police website at www.miami.edu/police.

All messages sent as part of this test will clearly indicate that it is a test.  This will be the first full scale test of the upgraded system and should take 90 minutes or less for all messages to be successfully transmitted.  However, since the exact specifications of the system have yet to be verified, the timeframe may be significantly more or less.  There will be widespread publicity of the Emergency Notification Network test in coming weeks.  Please assist the University in spreading the word to our community.
