Lieutenant (Field Operations) Michael Colombo

Lieutenant (Administrative) William Gerlach

wgerlach@miami.edu

Originally from upstate New York, Lt. Gerlach became a Miami Hurricane in 1981 as he fled the cold New York winters.  Lt. Gerlach is a Hurricane through and through.  He is an alum, graduating in 1985 with a BS in Anthropolgy.  He earned a Masters of Public Administration in 1991 from the University of Miami School of Business.  He has been a University of Miami Police officer since 1985.  He has earned officer of the quarter awards 4 times and officer of the year once.  He is married with two children.

"There is no single greatest moment here at UM.  The campus is just too vibrant.  What comes to mind:  the first Football and Baseball national championships (and many more to follow) -- what a time to be a UM student, the 2004 Presidential Debate, being part of the team that has reduced crime on campus at a rate which exceeds the national averages, and commencement, every one of them--it is wonderful to see students achieve success and start new lives, it is what we are here for.  I live for the day when every one of those seniors graduates and not one of them has been the victim of crime on our campus."
