To provide an additional layer of security, the UM Police Department contracts with Vanguard, a private security company.  Vanguard Security officers are regularly stationed at various buildings on campus and patrol the campus at large, day and night.  Although Vanguard officers are unarmed, they are trained to spot threats to life and property and respond appropriately (usually by contacting University Police by radio).

Vanguard Officers can be hired to provide security at special events by filling out the Contract Security Requisition Form.
