Program Information
The School of Architecture offers both professional and post-professional
graduate programs. The Professional Master of Architecture degree has two
tracks, one for students with pre-professional degrees in architecture and
one for students with degrees outside of architecture. Candidates with a
pre-professional architecture degree typically pursue the two-academic-year
track of concentrated study. Students with degrees in other disciplines
follow a program of three calendar years' duration.
The post-professional Master of Architecture in Suburb and Town Design
program has attracted international recognition for its efforts to develop
guiding principles for the building of communities. The one calendar year
curriculum includes special opportunities to work directly with
municipalities, civic and neighborhood groups, and other governmental
agencies and prepares students to be effective designers and advocates for
both private and public development and public sector redevelopment
enterprises.
The Master of Architecture Research includes a concentration in computing
and design. Working closely with faculty mentors, students focus their
studies in relation to career objectives. Faculty members in the School are
widely known for their work in design, practice, and design research in a
number of areas including affordable housing, technology, computer imaging,
theory, urban history, and historic preservation. Upon admission, each
student crafts a specialized program of study with a faculty adviser.
