Ongoing projects/Clinical applications
The Biomaterials/Circulatory Assist Device Laboratory is actively collaborating with research groups from various departments within the University. Current projects in the laboratory include:
- Development of growth factor releasing hydrogel scaffolds for cutaneous regeneration (in collaboration with the Department of Dermatology)
- Synthesis of hybrid scaffolds for stem cell growth and differentiation to induce bone regeneration (in collaboration with the Department of Medicine, Geriatric Research Center)
- Design of peptide-based chemi- and biosensors (in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry)
- In vitro testing of a new implantable ventricular assist device to support patients with end stage heart disease who are waiting cardiac transplantation (a collaboration between the Department of Surgery, University of Miami and the School of Medicine at the University of Moron, Argentina).
