The University of Miami is proud to offer employers the CaneZone Career Management System. CaneZone is designed to allow employers to post internships for FREE and manage their own accounts. If you have any questions about posting an internship, please contact Jenna Stewart at (305) 284-1816. The Toppel Career Center is committed to assisting organizations in their efforts to recruit University of Miami students for internship positions. The staff of the Toppel Career Center believes that quality internships are an extremely effective way for organizations to test, train, and recruit potential full-time employees while, at the same time, offering students an opportunity to learn and gain practical work experience. While the University of Miami does award academic credit for internships, the procedures and requirements vary among the academic schools, colleges, and departments. Most departments will award up to three credits for an internship, while some do not award any credits at all. In addition, in most majors, internship credits are an elective rather than a requirement. The Toppel Career Center does not award or arrange academic credit for internships. It is completely the student's choice to pursue academic credit and to seek approval through an appropriate department.

| Intern Compensation and the Law |
In order to comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act, it is required that all employers that are for profit pay their interns, unless the intern is receiving academic credit. Government agencies and Not-For-Profits may host interns without pay. An intern’s hours will vary depending on the time of year. Typically, students work around 15 to 20 hours during the semester. Summer internships can be anywhere from a few hours per week to full-time.
