Below are some of our frequently asked questions. We hope they provide the answers you need. When is Panhellenic Sorority Formal Recruitment? Panhellenic Sorority Formal Recruitment is January 15-19, 2009 How do I participate in Panhellenic Sorority Formal Recruitment? You must register to participate in Panhellenic Sorority Formal Recruitment. You may do so by filling out the online registration form on our website, which is under Interested Students, How Do I Join?. There is a $35.00 registration fee that must be paid to register for Panhellenic Sorority Formal Recruitment. Checks are made payable to the Panhellenic Association. Once I register, what happens? Once you register for Panhellenic Sorority Formal Recruitment, you will receive an email indicating that your registration form is in order. You will be contacted by a Panhellenic Rho Gamma (Recruitment Guide) will call you to give you more information about the process. You are encouraged to attend the Sorority Showcase and other informational events. This is an opportunity for you to meet all of our sororities on campus. This is also an opportunity to meet your Rho Gamma. In the meantime you may also join our Facebook group, Sorority Recruitment 2009 at the University of Miami. What are the requirements to go through recruitment? To be eligible for recruitment and initiation, a woman must be a full-time student at the University of Miami . Full-time status is twelve credits or more must also have a 2.50 cumulative GPA or higher. If you have been initiated into a National Panhellenic Conference sorority already, you may not go through recruitment. Do I need to send reference letters or pictures? No. The University of Miami does not use pictures for sorority recruitment. You may send reference letters if you choose, however, they are not the norm on our campus, and it will not negatively affect your experience if you do not have them. Do you have sorority houses? No. Each of our sororities has a suite for meeting purposes. The suites are where recruitment events are held. The suites are in the Panhellenic Building, which is right across from the Learning Center and next to the School of Communication. Which sororities are involved in Panhellenic Formal Recruitment? The seven Panhellenic Association sororities are: Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Delta Phi Epsilon, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Sigma Delta Tau, and Zeta Tau Alpha. Am I allowed to speak to sorority women? Sorority women may answer your questions about Greek life, however, because of the rules surrounding sorority recruitment, there may be times when sorority women cannot have detailed conversations or interactions with you. Please know that these rules only exist around the time of Panhellenic Sorority Informal Recruitment. What happens during Panhellenic Sorority Formal Recruitment? You will begin by visiting all seven sororities in a span of two evenings. This takes place in their suites in the Panhellenic Building. You will learn more about their organizations. Then, you will begin to narrow your choices and preference which sororities you most want to visit again. The sororities will also narrow their number of potential new members they may invite back to their events. On the third evening, you will then visit a maximum of five sororities to learn more about their philanthropies. There will again be a narrowing process and you will visit a maximum of three sororities the fourth night of recruitment. Finally, on the fifth night of recruitment, you will have an opportunity to attend a maximum of two preference events for sororities. After preference events you and the sororities will make decisions which may result in an invitation to join an organization on the final day, Bid Day. The end result is that the Potential New Member makes an informed decision about the group she would most like to join and the sorority makes the same decision about the women they would most like to invite to join their sorority. This is a mutual selection process. Women going through sorority recruitment are commonly called Potential New Members, or PNMs. What if I did not get a Greek Life Publication in the mail?
