The University of Miami Police Department has a Crime Mapping and Analysis program as a means to proactively detecting crime patterns, trends and series. Data developed through this program guides proactive uniform police patrol strategy, area checks, undercover and sting operations, covert initiatives and general resource deployment. Investigations are also aided by increasing criminal apprehensions and the clearances of cases.
