The University of Miami recognizes the complexities of the research and training environment. The Office of Research has established various entities to provide assistance and guidance to principal investigators in performance of their research efforts. These departments provide support and ensure compliance with the requirements of regulatory agencies.  To explore any of the following topics in more depth, select an item from the menu on the left.

 

 Animal Care and Use   - The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee has been established to ensure appropriate and humane care and treatment of animals involved in research efforts on all campuses of the University of Miami..

Environmental Health & Safety - Responsible for occupational health and safety, EHS provides support and training to avoid biological and chemical hazards and to manage the University's compliance with safety and environmental programs.

Ethics     - The U.M. Consortium for Ethics promotes the study of ethics and the resolution of ethical issues and challenges through an interdisciplinary approach emphasizing education, research and community service programs.

Human Subjects Protection  - Responsibility for research involving human subjects, as well as overall institutional scientific integrity.

UM - Institutional BioSafety Committee (IBC) - The UM IBC has oversight of the use of recombinant DNA (rDNA) technology in research procedures that are conducted at or sponsored by the University of Miami.

Technology Transfer - Serves as the link between the University of Miami and corporations.  Functions include identification of commercially viable technologies and products, partnership with corporations to commercialize the product technologies on a worldwide basis, management of University intellectual property, and economic development.
